Matteo Varesco is a researcher at the Fondazione Bruno Kessler in Italy. He works at the Centre for Sustainable Energy, where he is involved in European projects on energy communities – primarily CELINE (HORIZON-CL5-2023-D3-03-04, 2024–2027) – which aims to foster the development of renewable energy communities across Europe, enabling a more accessible and resilient energy system through digital innovation and citizen participation.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Management from the University of Bolzano/Bozen (Italy) and a Master’s degree in International Management from the University of Cologne (Germany), where he graduated from the CEMS Master in International Management, a global joint program offered by a network of top business schools, multinational companies, and NGOs.

He brings expertise in energy markets and the development of energy communities, drawing on his professional experience in both the banking and energy sectors. He previously worked as an analyst at Alperia, one of Italy’s leading utilities with a strong focus on sustainability.

Matteo Varesco also serves as a board member of the Renewable Energy Community CER Fiemme and the renewable energy company BioEnergia Fiemme. His active involvement in local sustainable energy initiatives, combined with his international background, enables him to contribute effectively to projects that aim to strengthen the role of Alpine communities in the global energy transition.
