Infrastructures

Our large-scale facilities and labs in Trento and Rovereto allow us to offer a unique collaborative environment for development, testing and validation.

Laboratories in Povo

Our laboratories and testing facilities are at the core of our research and innovation on energy. We perform applied research using the scientific method to solve specific technical issues and find innovative solutions.

  • Advanced Materials Laboratory
Laboratory for development of thin layers, nanostructured materials, novel energy conversion processes
  • Chemistry Laboratory
Laboratory for characterization of physical and chemical properties on novel materials
  • Battery Laboratory
Laboratory for electro-chemical testing of new prototypes of next generation batteries
  • Hydrogen Laboratory
Laboratory for electro-chemical and mechanical testing of new prototypes for hydrogen production

TESS-Labs

The “Laboratori di tecnologie e servizi per la sostenibilità” are located in Progetto Manifattura, Rovereto. The initiative is funded the Trento Autonomous Province and sees the involvement of Trentino Sviluppo Spa, FBK and the Unitversity of Trento.

The infrastructure consists of five laboratories: two cross-disciplinary laboratories will work on enabling technologies for validation and on multi-physics and multi-scale modelling of technologies; the others are specialised in infrastructure for construction and mobility, hydrogen and batteries.

The laboratories will therefore develop the theme of the generation, management and use of innovative energy carriers such as hydrogen and biogas, storage and batteries, and energy efficiency through the study of related technologies and devices as well as materials that improve energy performance and sustainability for smart buildings.

Technological Hub for Hydrogen and Batteries

The Center for Sustainable Energy will find its final location in 2028 when the THHB will be finalised and will consist of

  • Indoor spaces: 5000 m2
  • Offices and support areas: 1200 m2
  • Laboratories: 3200 m2
  • Technical areas: 600 m2

The outdoor facility will cover an area of 12.000 m2

  • Testing facility: 7.500 m2
  • Technical areas: 1.000 m2
  • Parking: 1.000 m2
  • Green areas and external spaces: 2.500 m2

The new infrastructure will allow the Center to go from W to MW scale, testing and validating at a relevant industrial scale with customized benches and advanced controls.
