Edoardo Gino Macchi, Marco Cecchetti and Mattia Duranti participated in the IFBF – International Flow Battery Forum, a reference event in the flow battery industrial and research community. New product developments, policies, and technical advancements are shown here by companies and research institutes to boost the competitiveness of this safe and long-lasting technology.
Marco Cecchetti presented the poster “Integrating Flow Batteries with Supercapacitors: A Strategy to Cut Auxiliaries Consumption” demonstrating how a smart use of supercapacitors can enhance the overall efficiency of flow batteries, especially when their use is intermittent. The study analyzed the case of Graciolica island hybrid system, where a flow battery is combined with wind, solar and diesel generation sources.
Mattia Duranti participated with the poster “Time-efficient models for flow fields design in Iron and Vanadium Flow Batteries” showing a recently developed model able to perform a fast evaluation of cell geometries. This new method allows for a rapid iteration with numerous design hypothesis, enabling resource-efficient cell design and effective customization on several chemistries.
