Matteo Buffo works as a researcher in the Sustainable Territories Area (Directorate) since 2026. His main activities are related to industrial demand-side flexibility, to support the integration of renewable energy sources and the
electrification of end uses, including LEONARDO and FLEXIA. He also contributes to InCUBE supporting the organization, coordination and reporting of the renovation activities and innovative solutions implemented at the Trento demonstration site.

He holds a M.Sc. in Energy Engineering from the University of Padova, with a Master’s Thesis carried out in collaboration with the Technical University of Berlin, focused on machine learning methods for deriving high-resolution, long-term weather time series from climate projections for energy system modelling. During his studies, he contributed to the student projects UniZEB, aimed at realizing a Zero Energy Building, and Catharsis, exploring concrete solutions for integrating intermittent resources into the grid.

Currently, he also serves as a volunteer member of the UNECE Youth Group on Resilient Energy Systems, coordinating the youth cluster on Cleaner Electricity Systems and participating as an observer in most of the activities of the UNECE Group of Experts on Cleaner Electricity Systems, as well as in other initiatives organized by the UNECE Committee on Sustainable Energy.
